Unique Friends is a group based at The Junction in Goole.
It is run by a voluntary trustee committee of parents/carers of children with SEND / additional needs, who are all DBS checked, all have Safeguarding and some of our trustees also have Paediatric First Aid, Food Hygiene, Disability Awareness, Equality and Diversity, Trustee Management training as well as other qualifications. We run sessions / activities on a regular basis, keep up to date with events by following us on facebook/twitter and on our website.
We aim to provide a safe, relaxed, inclusive, non-judgemental environment for children with SEND/additional needs and their families aged from 0 - 25 years.
As parents of children with SEND/ additional needs, we will have been in the shoes of new parents and offer help, support, advice, signposting to other services and information to help families who are in the process of diagnosis or already have diagnosis.
We rotate the activites for the children in which parents are encouraged to become involved with too. Examples of which are; arts and crafts, games, soft play, dance, music, sensory area, lego, gardening, cooking, life skills and we invite outside services in to provide sessions suitable for the families who attend.
There is use of a tablet throughout the session - please see a committee member to book your 15 min slot.
Some of the parents have non-verbal children, so you can pick up on some signs whilst you are there if you wish to learn!
The Committee consists of :-
Amanda Best (Chair/Joint Treasurer),
Michelle Shilton (Vice Chair/Joint Treasurer),
Sheran Pennington-Duck (Secretary),
Katy Bristow (Fundraising Officer)
Karen Jackson (Advisory Officer)
Volunteers : Bethany Wraith, Mary Rosewarn Lee, Lucie Tipping and Ben Bristow.
We would welcome anyone who would like to come on board with us!
