Unique Friends

Unique Friends are a not for profit organisation that provide activities, support, and information to children, young people and adults with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities aged 0-99 years and their families. We are based at The Annex in Gilberdyke and welcome families from the surrounding areas of East Yorkshire.

 

Our aim is to provide inclusive activities that all the family can enjoy in an accepting and welcoming environment, as well as provide support, training opportunities, information and signposting to other agencies.

We provide a diverse calendar of activities ranging from cooking, horticulture, pottery, bowling, golf, trampolining, swimming, day trips to Welton Waters, Let Loose and Sewerby Hall 

Our objective is to try and provide activities which are inclusive and can be enjoyed by all, therefore promoting self esteem, independence, positive mental health, alleviating loneliness, isolation, and creating opportunities for meaningful friendships to form and families to be able to bond with fellow parent/carers who understand each others dynamics of family life.

 

We host a varied selection of weekly sessions/activities which are run  by volunteers with extensive SEND understanding/knowledge.Practitioner skills range from Qualifed Teacher,Level 3 CCLD nursery nurse,qualified Doula and health and social care experience alongside Makaton Level 3 signing, including our Social club for adults with learning disabilities ,term time Stay and Play session for pre school aged children .Private hire of our building for specialist parties and events to support the SEND community we work in. We hold regular coffee mornings and events for parent/carers and often invite people from external agencies to come in to support and provide information.

 

We also have the following projects that our families can access :

"Bringing Senses Together" this project involves us hiring out sensory equipment for a month to our families on loan free of charge. Families can also book exclusive use of  our on site sensory room "Emma's Den " for a fee of £5.00 per hour please email us to arrange this .

We also have our brand new private office/therapy room available to hire for 1 to 1 consultations and appointments ,therapy sessions.We are a fully accessible venue with disabled toilet and hoist in situ(own sling must be provided).We will be offering the hire of the room at reasonable rates and the Centre will not be open to anyone else while the room is in use.

​

"Looking After Yourself" this project is for Parent/Carers that focuses on their health and well being. We offer access to advice and support, workshops, training opportunities and clubs which all promote health and well bein
